Edge router is the equipment which accommodates each user’s access line and provide several services, e.g. triple-play services. The higher availability of the edge router is getting required as the system capacity gets larger. We have proposed shared-spare edge router system to achieve high availability with minimum cost. When a primary edge router fails one of its modules and loses inner chassis redundancy, the proposed system enables a shared spare chassis to synchronize to that router by using 1:1 stateful redundancy capability of the router. One of the disadvantages of the proposed system is that the case of sudden system down before the shared spare router synchronizes. To reduce this disadvantage, the improvement is discussed in this report, including proactive triggered synchronizing. Fail-safe switchover for the proposed system is also discussed. |
