A large-scale computational model of the cone mosaic in the primate retina

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Color vision is mediated by cone photoreceptors. These cells have the function of converting absorbed photons into neural signals. In this study, to elucidate the visual information processing in the retina, we developed a computational model of the cone photoreceptors based on the physiological and anatomical characteristics. The present model incorporated the spectral sensitivities of three-types of cones, as well as the nonuniform spatial distributions of cones and rods. The photoreceptor mosaic was generated by a stochastic algorithm to reproduce the nonuniformity. The chromatic light response was modeled by the spectral sensitivity and the equations of the membrane dynamics. The present model makes it possible to analyze how color information is processed in the retinal mosaic.
