Finite difference time domain (FDTD) analysis utilizing new boundary conditions is used to calculate near infrared optical pulse propagation in an adult head model with nonscattering cerebrospinal fluid. It has been become clear that backscattered power and mean delay dependences on source detector separations calculated by the analysis are in good agreement with experiments. The FDTD analysis was applied to estimate sensitivities of absorption coefficient changes in gray and white matter in the model in time-resolved measurement. It has been become clear that the source detector separation which maximizing the sensitivities are not dependent on the delay time of photons when nonscattering region is taken into account, whereas the sensitivities are strongly dependent on the delay time. Sensitivities in time-resolved and continuous wave measurements are also compared when the nonscattering medium, thicknesses are changed. |
