Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) High-efficiency rectifier circuits are getting expected for use in a variety of emerging RF applications such as wireless power transmission, energy harvesting, and imaging technology. They generally employ Schottky diodes to rectify the input RF waves. To fully exploit the input energy, an impedance matching network was inevitable in conventional rectifiers. Those networks often make the rectifiers suffer from possible undulation of input frequency, power level, and load impedance in practice. This paper suggests a new RF rectifier circuit scheme that offers wide band and high efficiency without resorting to matching circuits. It is based on a balanced pair of diodes coupled through a quadrature hybrid, but in turn, we appended another pair as the second stage in cascade. This makes it possible to recycle the reflected energy even there is a crucial mismatching in the first stage. By this technique, we designed and fabricated a prototype two-stage balanced version in S band. Measured results show that the scheme achieves 10.1 times broader frequency range in S11 and 7.3 times in power efficiency, than traditional ones. The experiment also successfully proved higher tolerance toward load impedance deviation.
