We have developed a wireless multi-hop communications testbed for various protocols with directional communication by using the software radio platform called
GNU Radio/USRP2 (Universal Software Radio Peripheral) and ESPAR antenna as a variable directional antenna.
We have designed and made the 7-element ESPAR antenna for 5.1GHz and the varactor controller so as to control the ESPAR antenna on the GNU Radio.
We have implemented CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) scheme as a MAC protocol.
By using the testbed, we have conducted experimental evaluation of throughput in single hop communication and multi-hop communication.
As a result, we have verified that the spatial utilization efficiency is improved by using directional beam. |
