We conducted an experiment to find highly discriminable combinations of area symbols on embossed graphics with sighted and blind persons as subjects. In the experiment, we measured subjective evaluation on differences of textures and reaction times by pair comparisons with dot patterns of ten different dot distances and three dot diameters as stimuli of area symbols. The experimental result showed that dot patterns with more than 2.1mm differences in dot distances among the same dot diameter are highly discriminable and those with more than 1.4mm differences in dot distances among the different dot diameters. From these results, we selected appropriate pairs of dot patterns on embossed maps, taking the range of area symbols in consideration. |
