A Proposal for easy detectable symbols in a tactile map

(in English) To improve the usability of tactile maps, it is necessary to create easily detectable symbols in tactile maps. To propose easily detectable symbols in tactile maps on the basis of quantitative data, we conducted haptic search experiments with sighted people, and measured search times as an index of search efficiency. We created three symbols whose size were different, and measured search times for each symbol. In the result, subjects found the biggest symbol faster than smaller ones. This result suggests that it should be good to use big symbols as important places (e.g., departure place and destination) when tactile maps are created.
