Development of fluid display using bimodal electrodes

(in English) This paper describes to develop a new structure of the reflective display. The characteristic structure of the new display was to use three electrodes which were arranged in parallel. The two outer electrodes and the center electrode were fixed with a 100μm gap. HFE-7100(3M) which is a dielectric liquid was selected as a working fluid. When electric fields were applied to the one of the outer electrodes, the dielectric liquid was drawn into the channel between the electrodes by the electrostatic pressure. In addition, four pigment particle dispersion liquids (cyan, magenta and two yellows) were examined. It was found that the pigment particle dispersion liquid was separated into the colored particles and the liquid by the electrostatic pressure and the electrical polarization force.
