Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Though tactile graphics are widely used for the study of figures and maps in the schools for the blind, they have a fatal problem that the full spelling of the name of each part cannot be indicated in tactile graphics due to the limitation of the space. Consequently, the conversion table to the full spelling is necessary to know the correct name of each part. In order to solve this problem the authors have proposed “Tactile graphics system with voice explanation” using a touch-panel of the computer. Recently the authors have created the educational contents for the above-mentioned system which can be distributed freely for the contents including Japanese area maps and meridian point figures, which can be commonly used in many schools for the blind. On the other hand, for the contents which have to be created originally at each school, the authors have developed authoring tools which can be easily used by teachers of the schools for the blind. The authoring tools consist of two parts: (1) semi-automatic image conversion tool which can make tactile graphics data from a picture file of the computer using image processing techniques and (2) interactive drawing tool of lines and circles which can indicate a picture file of the computer as an underlay while drawing. The result of a preliminary test with the cooperation of teachers of the school for the blind indicates that they can create their original educational contents by themselves quite easily.
