RLSA (Radial Line Slot Antenna) is a planar multimode waveguide slotted array originally designed for DBS reception. The
planar structure of RLSA made it a suitable candidate for the space-use where added features of light weight and mechanical strength were
required. These requirements were successfully met with the use of quartz honeycomb structure as the spacer at lower design frequencies
such as 8GHz, where the cell size is much smaller than the wavelength. In this study the propagation characteristics in the honeycomb,
especially in the mm-wave region, has been estimated by simulations. The anisotropic and singular propagation is predicted which are partly
confirmed by experiments. |
