Wake-up scheme of Access Points for Wireless LAN Mesh Network and its Evaluation

(in English) Radio-On-Demand (ROD) system which the authors previously proposed saves the power consumptions of IEEE 802.11-compliant wireless LAN Access Points (APs). The APs in ROD system can drastically reduce the power consumption with sleep mode. However it is likely to increase waiting time at the terminal user and power consumption for AP activation before the start of data communication. This paper propose a novel wake-up scheme of APs in wireless LAN mesh networks which achieves short waiting time and keeps low power consumption with cooperative control between APs. In this scheme, APs are divided into two categories, master APs and slave APs, considering the total amount of energy consumed by APs. Each master AP collects state information of other master APs and all slave APs to select the optimum wake-up control achieving low power consumption and short waiting time. Evaluation results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
