Active period adaptation scheme for achieving low latency and low energy in wireless sensor networks

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) IEEE 802.15.4 is a standard for the MAC (medium access control) and physical layer protocols of wireless sensor networks.Beacon mode of IEEE 802.15.4 is designed to meet the requirements for the low power consumption. To save energy, each node repeats active period and sleep period periodically.Although it can reduce power consumption, active period is fixed at initial value and it is difficult to fine-tune the active period. This paper proposes a novel active period adaptation scheme for achieving low latency and low energy according to the number of connected nodes in wireless sensor networks.Simulation evaluation results show that the proposed scheme enables lower latency and lower energy transmission compared with IEEE 802.15.4.
