A study of IP multicast delivery method in many-branch E-PON access with fast zapping and high scalability performance

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The transition to terrestrial digital broadcasting from terrestrial analog broadcasting has been completed in Japan. Along with this, IP retransmission services of terrestrial digital broadcasting and BS digital broadcasting have also been deployed in earnest. In these IP retransmission service, it has been desired to be achieved capability on par with broadcasting service. In other words, the main challenge is to increase the number of users who can be watched at the same time, and increase the number of channels that can be delivered at once, and speed up channel switching (fast zapping performance), and guarantee quality of service (QoS), and improve reliability (Earthquake Disaster Countermeasure). In this paper, we propose a IP multicast delivery control scheme to achieve high resource utilization efficiency and faster than conventional zapping performance, in the access networks which are composed of E-PON access systems. In addition, we show the technical issues and an improvement technique about scalability, because we have assumed that E-PON systems can achieve longer distance reach and more many-branch than now in the future to improve delivery efficiency in the access networks.
