Wavelength switched optical network (WSON) is a promising technology for future network. However, due to the physical layer impairment and immature all-optical techniques, optoelectronic 3R regenerators still need to be deployed in the networks. Moreover, the regenerator can also carry out the wavelength conversion from an input wavelength to a different output wavelength by using tuneable components inside the receiver/transmitter of the regenerator, termed as wavelength convertible 3R regenerator (WC3R). In this paper, we will focus on the problem of WC3R placement, and a novel heuristic approach is proposed by incorporating both requirements of regeneration and wavelength conversion during the running time. The effectiveness of our proposal will be evaluated on a large-scale network. |
