We aimed to implement the function of MT neuron, which responds to a specific movement direction and speed, in a computer simulation level
to explain a synthesized movement information.
Our simulation model is based on the model of Simoncelli \& Heeger (1998),
which has a hierarchical architecture of extractions of movement and non-linear modulations.
In our simulation, we consider three kinds of non-linear modulations.
In our result, the saturating type modulation, which is often applied to pattern recognition in order to tolerate pattern deformation, is not appropriate to detect movement information.
On the contrary, the energy model type modulation, which emphasizes the different of detection result, is more appropriate to explain MT pattern cells. |
