The Number decision method of hidden units using the cumulative weight changing amount
Shuniti Ishi, Jun Rokui (Shimane Univ.) NC2011-147
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this research, we verified about the method of determining the number of hidden units which is one
of the performance decrement factors of a hierarchical type neural network. We would like to focus attention on the
relation between the unit weight at the time of learning and the optimal number of hidden units. When performing
fixed count learning, the accumulation value of the amount of hidden unit weight change was used for estimation of
the number determination of hidden units. We propose the method of determining the optimal number of hidden
units by estimating division of each hidden unit on the basis of the amount of accumulation weight change of an
initial state. We verified the validity of the proposed method experimentally.
