Wireless energy transmission at 950MHz band has been applied to many applications including RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) systems. However, the problem of restricted transmit power defined by radio reg- ulation and the standing-wave occured in indoor propagational environments limit the coverage of wireless energy transmission. On the other hand, limited sensor node life-time has long been an issue in wireless sensor networks. In this study, we proposed multi-point wireless energy transmission with carrier-shift diversity to achieve wider coverage of wireless energy transmission via wireless grid. We conduct an experiment to show the benefits of the proposed scheme in terms of extending coverage. In this experiment, we employ RFID Reader/Writers to perform wireless energy transmission, an IC tag antenna to receive energy, and a phase shifter to perform carrier offset. Experimental results show that the coverage of single-point and multi-point wireless energy transmission without carrier-shift diversity are both 96%. On the other hand, the coverage of proposed wireless energy transmission achieves 100% to activate sensors with consumed power of -10dBm. |
