A Study on Improvement of Eye Tracking Using Corneal Reflections

(in English) In eye tracking using corneal reflections, gaze direction is calculated based on spherical model of the cornea and eyeball in spite of the corneal asphericity. In order to improve the eye tracking accuracy, gaze direction estimated with two or four infrared LEDs was compared with rotation angle of optical glass sphere(GS) as an eye model. The mean error of horizontal angle was 0.29deg (2 LEDs for GS), 0.26deg (2 LEDs), and 0.27deg (4 LEDs) in the range of ±20deg and that of vertical angle was 0.33deg (2 LEDs for GS), 0.79deg (2 LEDs), and 0.46deg (4 LEDs) in the range of ±10deg . These results imply that the gaze estimation with multiple LEDs could reduce errors in the corneal asphericity.
