[Invited Talk] A Study of Reservation/Reservation-less Sleep Control Methods for Wireless LAN Access Points

(in English) Public WLAN access points (APs) have been deployed to provide wireless internet access service in many places. In near future, more than hundred thousand APs under business operation will consume more and more power. Increasing power consumption will also emission greenhouse gas, which may cause serious environment problem. Thus, Power saving functions which can reduce power consumption in these APs will contribute in this problem. On the other hand, battery-operated WLAN APs need power saving function to save their power for extending battery lifetime. In this paper, a reservation sleep control method and a reservation-less sleep control method is proposed to provide power saving function for WLAN APs. We will also use computer simulation to show the power saving effect and the average latency in the STA due to sleep control method.
