In wireless network, error-prone wireless links may cause loss of transmitted data. In this article, we propose a missing data recovery scheme for wireless sensor networks, where sensor nodes deliver sensed data to the sink. The proposed scheme is based on matrix completion, which is a different approach from traditional error control schemes such as ARQ (Automatic Repeat reQuest) and FEC (Forward Error Correction). The sink
constucts a sensed data matrix from received packets and recover missing entries of the matrix with matrix completion, which can recover the missing entries if the matrix is formulated as a low-rank one. We show that a sensed data matrix obtained from spatially correlated sensed data can be approximated as a low-rank matrix and matrix completion can recover the missing entries approximately. We implement the proposed scheme with a singular value thresholding algorithm for matrix completion and evaluate its performance with simple simulation scenarios. |
