Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recent studies showed that there was a significant correlation between the performance of selective attention task and the differential limen of temporal fine-structure (TFS) of sound. The previous studies suggested the possibility that subcortical portions of the auditory pathway might influence TFS processing. However, whether the peripheral (cochlear) processing affects TFS processing has not been fully explored. We measured various otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and tympanometry, in order to evaluate cochlear processing and middle-ear transmission. TFS processing performance was correlated with click-evoked otoacoustic emission (CEOAE) level and middle-ear compliance. This result suggests the possibility that the peripheral processing influences TFS processing.
