Effect of contact area of cloth patch on moisture sensation of human skin

(in English) Haptic sensation has various aspects, and recently researchers have attempted to reproduce moisture sensation, which is evoked when a human contacts with wet or moist materials. However, there are still unknown characteristics on the moisture sensation. It is important to understand human moisture sensation to design interface devices to virtually provide moisture sensation. We focus ourselves on the situation that wet clothes contacts with human skin and conducted experiments to examine the effect of contact area on the subjective intensity of moisture sensation. Our results showed that the ratio of contact area was dominant rather than the absolute size, when discriminating the intensity of moisture sensation caused by cloth patches of different size.
