A Study on Ultra High Speed Transmission System for Earth Observation Satellites

(in English) Corresponding to the increasing of the data transmission speed from Earth observation satellites, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has been studying the Ultra High-speed Modulator since 2010, which provides more than 2 Giga bit per second (Gbps). Main tasks for achieving the data rate are; (1) the feasibility study of the high-speed Modulation circuits more than 2Gbps, (2) to establish the compensation technology for nonlinear distortion, and (3) the countermeasure against rain attenuation at the Ka-band. This paper describes results of hardware trial productions and evaluations about (1) and (2) for two transmission methods that are64QAM single carrier and 32QAM multicarrier (QAM; Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), and the estimate of the amount of compensation required about (3).
