This paper presents maximum available Q factor (MAQ) for an FET oscillator employing a simple half wave length transmission-line as its feedback network. We analytically describe the derivation of oscillation condition and the stability criterion for the oscillator, and deduce the MAQ formula in terms of voltage gain . Transmission line loss is taken into account as well as , and in all analyses. The resultant formula and data show that the oscillation is unconditionally stable once the oscillation condition is satisfied. The oscillator shows higher Q factor for smaller . On the other hand decreases with for constant . Therefore too small leads oscillation to cease. Resultant data clarify the transmission line and FET parameters dependence of the MAQ. |
