Monostatic FMCW radar utilizing leakage signal -- Influence of phase-frequency characteristics of leakage signal and compensation method --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) FMCW radars with the antenna shared between the transmitter and receiver have a feed-through problem, where a part of the transmitted signal reflects at the antenna feed point due to the impedance mismatch and leaks into the receiver. The authors are considering utilizing the leakage signal to be used as a local signal to mix with the received signal producing a beat signal. The phase characteristics of the leakage signal contain the reflection-phase characteristics of the antenna. The frequency characteristic of the reflection phase is generally not flat, which might have adverse effects on the beat signal and the range profile obtained by performing Fourier transform on the beat signal. This paper looks at the effects using a consice model for the phase-frequency characteristics. It was found that the phase-frequency characteristics degraded the range profiles, the degree of which depends on the extent of the phase variation. However a digital signal processing can easily compensate the degradation.
