The effects of smoothness in stimulus motion on visually induced self-motion perception (vection) were analyzed in psychophysical experiment with 11 observers. Four-stroke and two-stroke apparent motions were employed in order to control the smoothness of the stimulus motion, along with conventional apparent motion (beta-motion) and real motion. The results indicated that the four-stroke and the two-stroke motions can induce self-motion perception, although its strength was reduced by impairing the observer’s perception of the smoothness in the stimulus motion. |
