In this paper, to provide efficient multi-hop communication in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET), we present a new TCP (TCP CoBA) that can be aware of various effects caused by a cognitive radio technology. The cognitive radio technology inherently causes frequent communication interruptions at each node due to spectrum sensing. Since traditional TCP determines the amount of transmission data between end-to-end nodes only, the abrupt changes at interior nodes of the MANET significantly degrades TCP communication performance. Therefore, TCP CRAHN focusing on an environment where nodes with the cognitive radio technology construct a MANET has been proposed. In this paper, we show that its communication quality is drastically degraded due to both long communication interruption with the spectrum sensing and drastic changes in communication characteristics such as bandwidth and delay as a result of channel switching. To solve these issues, TCP CoBA (1) freezes RTO timer during the sensing period and (2) updates a window size with consideration of available buffer spaces at relay nodes. Furthermore, we separate spectrum sensing and data transmission processes into two dedicated interfaces, respectively. Through simulation, we show that the TCP CoBA improves the throughput performance up to 260\%, compared with that of traditional TCP. |
