Wide Dynamic Range System of High Sensitive Digital SQUID Magnetometer with Magnetic Feedback

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A digital superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer, which uses single flux quantum (SFQ) circuits, is superior to analog SQUID magnetometers in term of slew rate, dynamic range and ease of building multi-channel system. However, the magnetic flux resolution of the digital SQUID is limited to flux quantum $\Phi_0$ (= 2.07×$10^{-15}$ Wb) due to the intrinsic digital operation of the digital SQUID, counting the number of flux quanta output. In the case of synchronous systems, the slew rate is limited by the clock frequency. In this study, an asynchronous digital SQUID with complementary output has been devised. We have implemented the asynchronous digital SQUID magnetometer using the ISTEC-SRL 2.5 kA/cm$^{2}$ and 10 kA/cm$^{2}$ Nb process. We have confirmed the correct operation and good linearity of magnetic response up to 3000 $\Phi_0$. The slew rate is estimated to be $10^{11}\ \Phi_0$/s. We have also investigated and experimentally demonstrated improvement of the magnetic field resolution of the asynchronous digital SQUID by utilizing on-chip magnetic feedback. A dynamic range of this SQUID is limited by the amount of magnetic flux which can be stored in the feedback loop. In this report, we demonstrated and discussed the wide dynamic range system with ‘high sensitivity mode’ and ‘reset mode’. In this system, the dynamic range is not limited. We confirmed measurement result that the input waveform was reconstructed by output SFQ pulse in the wide dynamic range system.
