Novel DCF-based MAC Protocol for Intra-group Centralized Radio Resource Management in WLAN Systems

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Along with many emerging applications requiring the QoS guarantees, the demands for QoS guarantee transmission over WLANs are increasing. For ensuring QoS requirements, the transmission opportunities should be granted to the stations according to the QoS requirements and the channel conditions of individual stations. However, the traditional DCF protocol provides an equal access opportunity to all the stations regardless of the QoS requirements and the channel condition. To enhance the throughput of WLANs while satisfying the QoS requirements, this paper proposes a novel DCF-based MAC protocol which enables intra-group centralized radio resource management. In the proposed protocol, an AP acts as a master to organize all the stations within the basic service set (BSS) and reserves the radio resource by DCF-manner. In the resource reservation period, AP performs a flexible access control utilizing the fine-grained resource block and the opportunistic scheduling based on the QoS requirements and the channel condition of each station. Numerical results confirm that the
proposed protocol ensures the QoS requirement with a high probability and enhances the throughput performance.
