The energy wastefully consumed by idle access points (APs) has become one of the most serious problems in current wireless LANs. In order to solve this problem, we have proposed Radio-On-Demand (ROD) wireless LAN where a wake-up receiver is applied to each AP. In ROD wireless LAN, all idle APs are transited to a sleep state and woken up by stations (STAs) in an on-demand manner. In this paper, we focus on a wake-up mechanism which exploits wireless LAN signals transmitted by STAs as wake-up signals. The wireless LAN signals are transmitted with CSMA/CA protocol, therefore, they are vulnerable to hidden nodes problem, which can increase the probability that APs fail to wake-up. In this paper, we investigate the impact of hidden nodes on the wake-up failure probability by theoretical analysis and computation simulations. We also examine the data-communication performance after successful wake-up and compare it with the wake-up performance. |
