A punctured convolutional code is constructed by puncturing the output symbols of a low rate convolutional code (original code) periodically. Though the best punctured code can be obtained by searching for all combinations of original codes and puncturing matrices, these searches require enormous computation efforts.
A convolutional code of rate $R=(n-1)/n$ can be generated as the dual code of a convolutional code of rate $R=1/n$. For a puctured convolutional code, there exists an ordinary convoluitonal code (equivarent code) with the same weight spectrum as that of the punctured code. We can obtain a rate $R=(n-1)/n$ punctured convolutional code from the equivarent code that is generated by the dual code of a rate $R=1/n$ convoluitonal code.
We present a method for constructing rate $R=(n-1)/n$ punctured convolutional codes by using dual codes of rate $R=1/n$ convolutional codes. |
