Inkjet is one of the most prospective technologies for microfabrication using soft materials as well as printing and patterning. Especially, it has an advantage of mass production of microdroplets containing some soft materials. Manipulation of the trajectory of in-flight microdroplets is in strong demand for practical applications of inkjet technique. So far a conventional method for manipulating droplets is via electrostatic control. This method, however, is not applicable for insulating materials, which are important for general industrial use. Recently, we have developed a new method for controlling the direction and the speed of insulating droplets flying with the velocity of ~ 1m/s in the air by dielectrophoretic force. |
