Fast data recovery for distributed storage systems by Disk Area Network

(in English) Digital data are increasing explosively, and the demand for clound storage is getting higher. In cloud storage systems, storage nodes tend to have room of CPU resources. To expand the capacity of the system, it is more efficient to increase the number of the disks per storage node and to reduce the number of the storage nodes. However, the conventional recovery approach causes the system performance degradation and taking a very long time for the recovery. This paper proposes fast data recovery mechanism by Disk Area Network, which enables storage nodes to change a connection of disks.Our evaluation results show that our approach is able to eliminate the performance degradation and to recover 300GB of data in 41 seconds.
