Target strength pattern measurement of juvenile chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) in a tank by the controlled method

(in English) Target strengths of juvenile chum salmons ($\textit{Oncorhynchus keta}$), standard body length=40.2 - 51.3 mm) from side aspect (n=12) and ventral aspect (n=3) at 70 kHz were measured as a function of an incident angle by the controlled method in a fresh water tank. Measurements were compared with predictions based on the swimbladder morphology. Swimbladder shapes were modeled as prolate spheroids with the major and minor radii which were obtained from soft X-ray images taken from the side view. Both measurements and predictions agreed well. Acoustic scattering properties of juvenile salmon can be predicted by the vacant prolate-spheroid mode series model at least within the L/$\lambda$ ($\lambda$ : wavelength) range of 2.0 - 2.5.
