A Large Effective Area Two-Mode Multi-Core Fiber

(in English) A design concept of large effective area (Aeff) two-mode multi-core fiber (MCF) is presented. Cores with a step-index profile are designed to support two LP modes over the C band and the L band with large Aeff larger than 110 µm2. The pitch of cores is determined regarding the inter-core crosstalk related to the LP11 mode. The two LP modes MCFs with four cores and seven cores show relative core multiplicity factor (RMCF) of 7.3 and 9.2, respectively. The RCMF of proposed two LP modes MCF is larger than that of previous reported single-mode MCFs. Finally, characteristics of fabricated fibers based on the design are shown.
