Robot Control Using a Neural Oscillator Kiyotoshi Matsuoka (Kyutech) NC2012-40 |

Recently models of central pattern generators have been applied to a lot of robots that perform various rhythmic movements. The general scheme of the robot control is such that some neural oscillators vibrate some parts of the robot while they receive some states of the robot as input. The scheme enables the oscillators to adapt to the natural dynamics of the controlled object and realizes energy-efficient driving. Among a lot of oscillators used for the robot control, the model proposed by the author a quarter century ago may be the most popular one. In this paper, various robots using the Matsuoka oscillator are introduced, and some conspicuous features of the oscillator-based control are presented. |
