Wide-Bandwidth Communication TCP for a Virtual Private WAN

(in English) In a virtual private WAN, which is shared with many hosts or sites and used by various general-purpose applications such as HTTP, FTP and CIFS, large communication delay and packet loss ratio cause the decrease of TCP throughput and the waste of contracted bandwidth. To solve this issue, we have developed an original wide-bandwidth communication TCP, which detects the network congestion based on the packet loss ratio and the change rate of that and controls the transmit rate to use up the remaining bandwidth based on the RTT previous send bandwidth and the current loss bandwidth. In the experimentation, we showed that our original wide-bandwidth communication TCP could use up the remaining bandwidth in the environment where the remaining bandwidth changed at each second. Proposed TCP achieved the throughput independent of bottleneck queue length, and in the case of large communication delay or large packet loss ratio, proposed TCP achieved one hundred times higher throughput than current TCP. Even if the maximum window size increases in the environment where packet loss occurs, the throughput of current TCP remains unchanged, while that of our TCP increases. Proposed TCP could improve the throughput of not only FTP but also CIFS.
