Laminated Polarizer With an Anti-Reflection Structure Using a Subwavelength Grating

(in English) An anti-reflection (AR) structure using a subwavelength grating (SWG) is analyzed by
the finite-difference time-domain method with the periodic boundary condition.
First, we evaluate the wavelength characteristics of the AR structure using the SWG.
By a proper choice of fill factor (the ratio of the grating width to the period),
the broadband transmission spectrum with a transmittance of more than 90 \% can be obtained for the TE and TM waves.
In addition, we consider the case where high-order diffraction wave affects the
transmission characteristics. After these basic studies, we apply the SWG-based AR structure to a laminated polarizer (Lamipol).
Note that use of a double-layer AR structure is desirable to sufficiently reduce the reflected waves.
However, the required refractive index for the Lamipol is too small to find an appropriate material.
Fortunately, the SWG-based AR can equivalently provide a low index almost arbitrarily.
As a result, a high transmittance of more than 99 \% is obtained over a wavelength range of 1.0 to $2.0~\mu{\rm m}$.
