(in English) Transmission performance of a push-pull driven silicon Mach-Zehnder modulator having silicon rib waveguide with lateral PN junction is characterized by eye-pattern and bit-error-rate measurements at a bit rate in 10-Gb/s regime. Power penalty is evaluated for positive and negative chromatic dispersion in distance equivalent to single-mode fiber transmission up to 80 km. Dispersion tolerance at 2-dB power penalty is +/-900 ps/nm, showing the performance of the silicon modulator comparable with the commercialized lithium niobate modulators and the capability of operation in 80-km optical-fiber transmission.
