Improvement of Input Device using DC-Coupled Electrooculogram for Communication Support

(in English) As a technology to support the communication of disabled individuals with motor paralysis who cannot speak and write, input devices using EOG (electrooculogram) have been proposed. The interface with high operability is expected using DC-coupled EOG, since the eye displacement angle can be estimated from the amplitude of EOG. However, it is necessary to remove the artifacts due to involuntary blink. There are problems such as the time delays caused by filtering the artifact, and missing the voluntary eye movement. In this study, the voluntary blink and eye movement were identified using a smoothing difference, without removing the blink artifact. We achieved that estimation accuracy of 82.8%, and input time of 0.8s in eye movements.
