Switched-Capacitor A/D Converters Based on Scale-Adjusted Ordinary and Negative β-Maps for IC implementation

(in English) β-encoders based on β-maps, including scale-adjusted ordinary and negative β-maps, have robustness against deviations in circuit parameters, low-accuracy and poor characteristics of circuit elements, and noise.
Switched-capacitor (SC) circuit techniques based on an integrator topology have been used to implement the β-encoders.
In addition, SPICE simulations and circuit experiments with discrete components confirmed the above robustness of the β-encoders.
However, the effects of value of the scaling parameter s and the conversion radix β in practical integrated circuits were not clarified yet.
In this paper, we implement SC scale-adjusted ordinary and negative β-A/D converter circuits with TSMC 90nm CMOS process.
We employ a fully differential configuration to reduce the effects of common-mode noise and parasitic capacitances.
The proposed circuit realizes both scale-adjusted ordinary and negative β-A/D converters in one circuitry via small changes in circuit connections.
Moreover, we can control the values of s and β through an external voltage and programmable capacitive arrays, respectively, in the proposed circuit.
Finally, an example of SPICE simulation results demonstrates a fine-tuning capability of the effective value of β in the proposed circuit.
