A Doherty amplifier usually consists of a carrier amplifier, peaking amplifier and an impedance inverting network. Microwave Doherty amplifiers with generalized output-combining condition are proposed. The output matching circuit of a carrier amplifier is designed to realize high performance both at low RF level in off-state of a peaking amplifier and at saturation RF level. The proposed amplifier enables Doherty amplifier configuration without the quarter-wave impedance inverting network. A line to invert output impedance of the off-state peaking amplifier to high level can be also removed. As a result, microwave Doherty amplifiers with compact circuit configuration and wideband performance can be expected. |
