Frame interpolation using warping and block matching

(in English) The fundamental techniques in the frame interpolation, which generates an intermediate frame between two successive video frames, include a block-matching-based and a warping-based approaches. The former fails in blocks with deformation including rotation and/or scaling, while the latter results in a large interpolation error for the triangular patches including several motions. However, the common advantage of the techniques is the low computational cost. This paper exploits these two techniques selectively for each region to improve the interpolation accuracy. The experimental results indicate that the proposed technique gives lower interpolation error compared to the two techniques applied alone.
