Precision improvement for shape from focus/defocus technique based on frequency band decomposition

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The Shape From Focus/Defocus technique has been known as one of the 3-D shape reconstruction techniques, which estimates depth information from a set of multi-focus images. However, the conventional technique gives poor depth estimation for surface texture with non-uniform frequency components. This paper thus proposes a new technique which decomposes surface texture into several frequency bands using a set of 2-D ring-shaped bandpass filters. The experimental results show that the proposed technique is promising.
