Multi-hop cooperative communications systems consist of a source, a destination, and several relays in each hop. When propagation channels are independently distributed, the performance of these systems is improved by received data sharing among relays. However, the distances between the relays are close so that the relays can communicate together; the diversity gain may be degraded due to correlations between propagation channels. Therefore, employing distant relays without data sharing (w/o DS) may be more efficient than employing nearby relays with data sharing (w/ DS). In this paper, the effect of the received data sharing in multi-hop cooperative communications is discussed via field experiments. It is shown that w/o DS can have better end-to-end packet error rate performance than w/ DS. |
