The PAE of Class-E/F such as switching-mode amplifiers is superior,
but it is nonlinear. EPWM is one of the architectures using the nonlinear amplifiers for linear modulations such as OFDM. There are two ways of PWM switching; first is switching RF input signal with Gilbert cell with PWM pulse of envelope signal, second is switching DCbaias of drain at the drain circuit. Swithing waveforms have been obvious switching drain side.
Though some studies have use the former way, no studey seems to confirm the appropriate drain current waveform and drain voltage waveform in class-E operation. This report studies the waveforms and drain efficiency. Computer simulation shows that PWM switching at RF input makes drain efficiency lower than that of DC supply input. |
