Channel capacity affected by antenna arrangement in orthogonal polarization based MIMO transmission using 60GHz band

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Although 7~9GHz bandwidth is available in 60GHz band for unlicensed use MIMO will be necessary to achieve over 10Gbps transmission even in 60GHz band. As directional anntena is used in 60GHz band wireless systems, line-of-sight (LOS) propagation results in relatively high inter-channel correlation. To solve this problem, we propse an orthogonal polarization based MIMO transmission and have evaluated channel chapacity and BER performance of the 2X2 MIMO using vertical/horizantal polarization or right/left-handed circular polarization. In 2X2 orthogonal polarizarion based MIMO transmission, the spatial anntena separation can improve the inter-channel correlation, thus it can improve the channel capacity. Based on this observation, this report evaluates the channel capacity according to the anntena arrangement position in indoor desk-top environment by computer simulation using a ray-tracing method. It also compares the channel capacity of 60GHz MIMO using orthogonal polarization waves with that using 60GHz MIMO using the same horizantial/verical polarization waves.
