The analysis of the lock-in process of CDR-PLLs using the nonlinear model of the phase detector is presented. The analysis of the behavioral model of the above circuits reveals that the pull-in lock range of the PLL is restricted by the mismatch current of the charge pump and the nonlinearity of the operation of the phase detector. In addition, this analysis shows the relation between the circuit configuration of the phase detector and the pull-in range. Finally we suggest the circuit configuration of the phase detector with the wide pull-in range from the results of the analysis. |
