A Hardware-Implementation-Friendly Algorithm Based on Hierarchical Models for Real-Time Human Action Recognition

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Naturally modeling the hierarchy and shared features of human actions such as running and jumping, we present a hardware-implementation-friendly algorithm based on hidden Markov model (HMM) for the human action recognition. It is important for robust modeling of complex human actions to exploit shared features and inherent hierarchical models. To this end, we propose the use of the hierarchical HMM (HHMM), which has been extended to handle shared features, combined with local features in the input video sequence such as optical flow for recognizing general human actions.
