Non-contact Dispensing of Small Droplets Through Ultrasonic Levitation.

(in English) Noncontact ultrasonic dispensing of a single droplet is demonstrated for the first time by using a hole on a half-cylindrical reflector. The droplet is found to fall freely through the hole with no influence of residual acoustic field shortly after the vibration is stopped. The maximum diameter of a levitatable droplet is measured as a function of the hole diameter, which clarifies that the optimal hole diameter from the viewpoint of power consumption is approximately 7 mm in this setup. This value is also confirmed to be suitable from the simulation result on the acoustic radiation force applied to the droplet.
